Deep-scanning

Lansweeper has the ability to perform a deep scan of an asset to uncover even more information than a CDR scan. This happens after CDR technology and Asset Radar have run credential-free scans. For a deep scan, Lansweeper uses a combination of the correct admin credentials to access a device with a set of different network protocols.

  • WMI (for windows)
  • SSH (for Linux)
  • SNMP (for network devices)

In this way, Lansweeper can deeply scan devices and retrieve all asset information contained in each device.

Scanning credentials

Scanning credentials, which are login/password combinations and certificates/keys used by your Lansweeper installation to remotely access and scan network assets, must be created and mapped to the customer's scanning targets, so that Lansweeper knows where to use them. For example: if you map a Windows credential to a domain, for instance, Lansweeper will try to use that credential for any Windows computer within that domain.

Asset radar configuration

Asset Radar has three ways it can be configured:

  • Enabled (adds assets to Lansweeper)
  • Logging Only
  • Disabled
Once enabled, Asset Radar’s discovered assets are visible in Lansweeper Classic (On-Premise). At this time, the list of assets discovered through Asset Radar is not visible in Lansweeper Sites (in the Cloud).

Deep scan results can change from device to device and asset type to asset type. This is because each asset’s configuration, operating system, and many other factors could impact the results provided. This can be seen when reviewing the results of a deep scan of Windows vs. Linux vs. Mac. Ensure you have the proper permissions and roles configured on the target device to return the most actionable results.
