You notice a lot of Linux devices in your scanning results. A closer inspection reveals they primarily consist of network devices, such as routers and switches. That's when you start to wonder why this is happening.
What happened?
When Lansweeper scans your network and finds a device, it will use the asset's fingerprint and available scanning protocols to correctly identify the device. In the context of network devices, SNMP emerges as the scanning protocol of choice for obtaining the most comprehensive information.
However, if port 22 (the default SSH port) is open on a network device, it might be incorrectly categorized as a Linux box instead.
Now what?
The solution is configuring your network devices to be scanned using SNMP, as this will ensure that accurate information is gathered during the scanning process.
