hi
ive noticed that the number of software installtions for Internet explorer compared to the number of xp installations seems to way off.
ie we have 325 installations of xp, 100 server 2003 , and there only seems to be 198 instances of IE6,7 and 8.
IE is installed on every machine we use here, so we are a bit suprised by the number diffrence.
any ideas on how to get the correct info back,?
Thanks

Adding a file to the custom scanning does not add it to the list of installed software.
You will need to create a custom report to list all computers with the iexplore.exe and their version.
hi, ok i have done that, and its pulling back the information, Thanks....,
its currently at 336 detections (67%), and is slowly adding the info.
is there a way to make this process run quicker, as its been about 2 weeks now, and its still 30% short of completion.?

hi
yes, all the installations of internet explorer are under
c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
heres whats being listed so far when i do a software search for internet explorer, Lansweeper is only showing 206 ie installations, where it should be up on 350.
looking at this list, to me it looks like the older version of intenet explorer, IE6 SP1, is the one that isnt being found, as the number located, 31, is very low, as this is the default version that is installed on the machines.
Internet Explorer Q828750 1
Internet Explorer Q867801 6
Internet Explorer Q903235 24
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 31
Windows Internet Explorer 7 20061027.150806 9
Windows Internet Explorer 7 20061107.210142 17
Windows Internet Explorer 7 20070813.185237 55
Windows Internet Explorer 7 20070813.191434 5
Windows Internet Explorer 8 20090308.140743 54
Windows Internet Explorer 8 20090308.140744 3
Windows Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1 20090115.021447 1
This is what i have under the scanned files
%programfiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
Any help appreciated.

adding the file scanning of %programfiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe brought back 31 new internet explorer 6 sp1 detecions.
but they were all on the windows 2000 and windows 2000 advanced server.

hi
It would be preinstalled by default. we would have a default ghost image with ie6sp1 installed, which we would use on every new machine that comes in.
so will adding %programfiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe to the file scanning section give us the correct info?
and this i have carried out also....
********************************************************
Problem confirmed:
Field version is 50 characters long, some versions of Internet explorer 8 are longer:
"8.00.6001.18702 (longhorn_ie8_rtm(wmbla).090308-0339)"
Solution: edit the table tblfileversion and make the field "FileVersion" 100 instead of 50
**********************************************************
this should now also show up more versions of ie8 that wernt being listed?
do i need to link this info to a report?
Thanks

If the browser comes pre-installed with the OS then it's not listed in the add-remove programs (software) section

Could you find a computer that has XP but that doesn't have IE, we can start from there.
How do you scan IE?
Could your problem be related to this one : http://www.lansweeper.com/forum/yaf_postst2495_file-search-issue.aspx
