Engaged Sweeper II
Hello all-

Been fighting this issue for 3 days now and could use some help. All the pcs and servers are seen by Lansweeper on all subnets. I can remote control, take remote screen shots etc. but i cannot scan pcs that are not on the same subnet as the Lansweeper service. I get "The RPC server is unavailable" error in Lansweeper console and the corresponding "DCOM was unable to communicate with......using any of teh configured protocols" in the event viewer. I have checked the DCOM settings, disabled all firewalls on both server and workstation, confirmed that all traffic can pass through the router. I have followed both KB articles for both errors.

Any ideas?

From the server, i can connect to computer management on the remote pc and see services, event viewer, etc...but i cannot access WMI. I get "Failed to connect to \\xxx-xx because "Win32: The RPC server is unavailable.""

So in order to do the distributed architecure now, i would need to distribute the client to all the workstations and have them report to a separate server on each subnet which would then report back to the main server or can the client be configured to simply report back to the main server?

Also, when will the next version that supports this with active scanning be available?

What you are trying won't work in this version, there is no release data announced yet for version 4.0.

Easiest would be to try to find the problem as it is most likely related to the routing/firewall configuration.

Hi Lansweeper. How would i confirm this? If you are thinking firewall then i can confirm that i have actually turned off both firewalls. As a side note, is it possible to install lansweeper in a distributed architecture? I was thinking of installing the service on a server on each subnet and have it report back to the "main lapsweeper installation" in our datacenter.

This currently works but not with active scanning.
Our next version will support this.

From the server can you connect to wmi with computer management?

After this initial connection WMI uses random ports.
Does your setup allows this?

Hi Lansweeper- i can telnet on 135 with no problems. I have also set up wireshark on both ends to confirm the traffic.

Try to do a "telnet computername 135" from the server to the client.

Port 135 is the dcom port which is used for the first connection.

Thanks for the quick responses! When i test to pcs on other subnets, i get the "RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA) for all 3 tests. You can see the screenshot in the doc i uploaded a few posts back.

The service shows as File version 3.5.1.0 and Product version 3.5.1.0

The Connection Tester works fine for all all pcs on the same subnet as teh lansweeper server.

When i telnet to the client pc on another subnet, i can see the request coming through via Wireshark port monitoring.
