Engaged Sweeper
I just want to start off by saying we are currently using the trial version of Lansweeper and we really like what we see. We do, however, have a couple of questions that we would like answered before we make the jump into buying this. The first question has to do with computer name changes. Often, we rename computers and have done so since we started to use Lansweeper. Once we rename these computers all we want to happen is the AD name to change, rather than it picking up on a whole new computer. We had serious issues with this using Spiceworks and frankly they didn't want to try and help us solve this issue, which is why we are looking into you guys. What I have noticed though, in Lansweeper, is we rename the computer and Lansweeper shows the newely named computer as Active and keeps the old computer name labeled as "Non-Active".

1) Why does it keep the old computer name in there labeled "Non-Active" when it's really the same computer, just with a different name?

2) How does Lansweeper determine whether a computer is Active or Non-Active?

3) How does Lansweeper determine whats a new computer and what's the same computer?

4) Is there a way to get this working the way we need it to work?

First I would recommend keeping the same computer name during it's entire lifecycle (but I understand some company policies don't allow this)

Before renaming the actual computer you can go into the configuration console and rename the computer in Lansweeper first (right click computer)
This will solve your issue.

>How does Lansweeper determine whether a computer is Active or Non-Active?

You can manually define this from the custom fields page, or use the auto cleanup options from the scanning setup.

See above.
