How to use 'Installdate' field in my custom report?

I need to create a report that uses the field 'Installdate'. But this field's type is "string" and it has different formats in various programs. How I can convert it to "Date"?

That's the problem: there is no rule to store this in the registry, each vendor does with the installdate what he wants.
