I have problems to install Lansweeper.
1st try:
Installation on a XP SP3 workstation. As SQL Server for the database was chosen the one from a SBS 2003.

The installation on 3 clients (all users were domain admins) worked fine. My attempts on other computers to install the service (as local admin only) didnt work. The installation stopped on the Lansweeper Database Configuration page. Error-message 'In order to successfully connect to SQL Server, following items must be accomplished ...

- Protocols "named Pipes" and "TCP/IP" must be enabled
- "SQL Server Browser" must be running

Why I could install from 3 computer and now it suddenly failed?

So i deinstalled Lansweeper again and tried my luck with the SQLExpress 2005 version. But the installation worked only on the server itself. On a client the server on which SQLExpress 2005 was installed doesnt appear in the dropdown list. When i add it manually and choose Windows Authentication, then the same error as above is appearing.

What am i doing wrong?

Edit:
After the restart of the computer where SQLExpress 2005 was installed on, i find that computer in the dropdown list. But it doesnt change the fact that i cannot connect the SQLserver from the client

Ok - I changed the global firewall settings.
The connection tester looks fine - but i couldnt update my computer. (a test on another client was successful).

Perhaps I did another mistake. What does in the configuration 'Permanently delete selected computers' exactly do? Delete them only from the database or dont let them appear in the list anymore?

I do not get any new error messages but my computer does not appear anymore.

It only deletes from the database (a new scan will add it again)
Did you run lsclient.exe again after the delete?

I installed all on one computer (tmsrv02) - then i started "LSclient TMSRV02 /showresult" on a client.

Connection to server succeeded.

But on server side there were no data in the database. So i thought that i have to install the service on all clients.

But as far as i understand you now this is not necessary. Also not in the freeware version? Can you confimr this again?

Then i have to look somewhere else for my problem.

This is correct.

You can look in the errorlog.txt file on the server to look for problems.

When I start LSclient TMSRV02 /showresult then i get the message 'Connection to server succeeded. But this doesnt help since i cannot install the service.

Does the standard windows firewall block lansweeper installation?

The sql browser service is running.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do here.

Typically in a small domain < 500-1000 computers you install database, website and service on one server.
Then the clients connect to this service with lsclient.exe

You don't need to install the service on all clients.

If the servername is sqlexpress your servername is probably
TMSRV02\sqlexpress (if it's a named instance)

Also make sure that:
The server is not firewalled
The sql browser service is running.

I checked already the pdf - the Named Pipes were already enabled. So I had to change only TCP/IP to enabled. But this didn't help.

How to configure the sql server is on the first pages.

Note that you only need to install the service on one machine if you want to scan everything.
