Good Morning.
While doing some maintenance earlier, it occurred to me that I have never been able to successfully remote control a Windows 7 computer. I always get the 'RPC unavailable' error, even though everything is set up via group policy. It's hit and miss if I can get intro C$ or Admin$, but even when i can do that, I still cant remote control or screengrab these machines.

Also, this can be enabled via GPO through Computer Configuration->Policies->Administrative Templates->Network->Link-Layer Topology Discovery. Enable both objects.

Hope this helps someone who's been pulling their hair!

Alright, I think I've solved it. For anyone who finds this thread, what seems to be the game changer is turning Network Discovery on (its off by default). I'll post back if that isn't the case, but it seems to be what works...

Either the machine is firewalled or the C$ share is not available.

Yes, it's a part of the group policy.

Is the remote registry service running?
