Engaged Sweeper
didn't know the best way to describe in the subject but here's what we're trying to do.

when a PC gets replaced, it's always replaced with the same name, lansweeper is awesome enough just to scan again and update the record. what i would like to do is keep track of the PCs that were replaced (old pcs) so that we have an inventory of what they were and where they ended up. (audit requirement)

is there a way to do this, i'd be perfectly ok with just leaving them in non active.

You will have to rename the "old" PCs. Lansweeper uses the combination domain name\computer name as a unique computer identifier. So if you reuse a machine's name, Lansweeper will simply update its database entry, as it is considered to be the same machine. To rename a machine, right-click on it in the Lansweeper configuration console under Lansweeper\Scanned Computers and select "Rename computer".

We would also recommend having these machines automatically set to non-active through one of the cleanup options listed in the Lansweeper configuration console under Scanning Servers\Your Server\Options\Scanning & Cleanup Options. For instance, check "Set computers to non-active if not seen in the last..."
Note that cleanup actions are performed when the Lansweeper service is started and subsequently every 24 hours. So if you update your cleanup options and immediately wish to apply the change, restart the Lansweeper service.
