This page describes how to configure IT Agent Discovery from your Lansweeper Site, and explains how to create or edit discovery actions.

IT Agent Discovery is currently a preview feature, so please anticipate occasional adjustments and improvements as we refine its performance. If you'd like to give feedback, you can join the IT Agent Discovery conversation.

Lansweeper's IT Agent Discovery is a lightweight, cross-platform scanning agent that can run on Windows, Linux, and Mac computers. IT Agent Discovery automatically collects an inventory from the computer it's installed on, securely sends scanned data to your Lansweeper Site over HTTPS, and can scan computers outside your network and over the internet.

To learn more about installing IT Agent Discovery, see Install IT Agent Discovery.

Configure IT Agent Discovery

You can configure the discovery settings for IT Agents from within your Lansweeper Site, allowing you to determine what to scan and when the scans should take place.

Access discovery actions

  1. Open a browser and navigate to https://app.lansweeper.com.
  2. Choose a Lansweeper Site that is linked with IT Agent Discovery.
  3. Go to Scanning > Discovery actions.
By default, each IT Agent will have a scheduled discovery action set to scan every 24 hours.

Create a new discovery action

  1. Go to Scanning > Discovery actions, and select Add new action
  2. In the pop-up, choose the Agent action type and select Add action.
  3. Enter a name and description for the action.
  4. In Sources, select Manage sources.
  5. Select which IT Agent(s) should carry out the action, and select Save.
An IT Agent can act as a source for multiple discovery actions, resulting in multiple scans at different schedules.
  6. In Triggers, select Create new trigger.
  7. Customize the schedule according to your preferences, provide a descriptive name for the schedule, and select Save trigger.
  8. Select Save and exit to save your new action.

Unassign an IT Agent from a discovery action

  1. Go to Scanning > Discovery actions, and select the discovery action you want to edit.
  2. In Sources, select Cross.png Remove for the IT Agent you want to unassign from the action.
  3. Select Save and exit to update your action.
