Question
Why does my antivirus trigger when Lansweeper performs automatic updates?
Answer
Lansweeper's auto-update feature copies the Lansweeper installation folder to C:\ProgramData\Lansweeper\Backup. This folder stores backups of the Program Files (x86)\Lansweeper folder and the Lansweeper database if hosted on the same system.
The copying process duplicates all files, folders, and executables, which may trigger antivirus alerts. Executables in the Program Files (x86)\Lansweeper\Actions folder, used by Asset Actions in the Lansweeper web console (Create and run actions), are particularly prone to this issue. Lansweeper includes built-in Asset Actions, but custom actions are also possible. Depending on the executable, it may trigger antivirus alerts.
We recommend adding an exception for the ProgramData\Lansweeper\Backup folder in your antivirus software. Alternatively, you can remove any unnecessary executables to prevent alerts.
