Hi,
I'm having trouble adding a custom field... more of a "I don't know how to add one". We are about to purchase a premium version and I have to figure out how to add a field to enter ASSET TAGS. I can't find the "add tab" on the Configuration > Computers page. I have the it-extrainfo.aspx open and can see the "custom1" section; i just can't figure out how to get it to show.

Could someone please provide a step-by-step guide?

Understood. Thanks. I'll look around and take a closer look at linking the tables properly to display the information correctly.

I won't be able to show the tblcompcustom in the GUID without creating a report, right?

Indeed

Do you mean directly from the search bar?
This is currently not supported (it's in the wishlist for next version)

And how do I go about searching for a record in that tblcompcustom?

On the custom fields page you can just enter the asset tag and save.
It will be saved in table tblcompcustom which you can use it your reports.

You don't need to add this to a table if you have the last 4 digits.
You can create a new custom report and then use the substring sql function to create the needed field : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187748.aspx

Right, some of the systems aren't named with this convention though. For those, I'd like to be able to enter in the Asset Tag manually since I intend to use lansweeper as my only inventory system and require that I am able to identify a certain box by physically looking at the Asset Tag on it.

I hope I didn't mess up the explanation.

The previous message was unclear, I apologize.

I want to be able to see display the asset tag of the computer in one of the columns. In the attached picture, the first 2 computers are named with the asset tag as the last 4 digits (4195 , 4191)

Will I be able to get the lansweeper to pick up that into a table? If not, how do I create a table and display that column, next to description for example.

Hello,

Please take a look at the following topic, it renames a custom field but does not add one : http://www.lansweeper.com/forum/yaf_postst2697_Lansweeper-Custom-Fields-question.aspx
