Can you clarify this for me. I'll give an example.

I Deploy PC named PC05015 to IP 10.10.5.15 / serial number 2AU815001

This PC crashes several years later, and is disposed of. I then update the State to Disposed (added "Disposed" myself) under the Custom Fields. Of course, the "suits" would like this information to stay available for all time for purchasing purposes.

I now have to replace PC05015 with a new PC. Due to our network configuration I do this...

I Deploy PC named PC05015 to IP 10.10.5.15 / serial number 2AU997663

Will Lansweeper know to leave the first PC in the database marked as Disposed and add the new PC as Active or will it change the Disposed PC to Active when it sees the same PC name and IP address even though they have different serial numbers and macs?

Also, if you have "Automatically make non-active computers active when they are rescanned" checked, does that apply to any state detected other than non-active?

Under normal circumstances, when we replace a PC as above, Lansweeper just overwrites the older PC's information with the new PC's info, which we didn't mind. But, as stated the bosses would like to track all equipment that is disposed of, stolen or in storage.

That’s what I thought you would say. Unfortunately, we have a strict naming convention that consists of the OU and last part of the IP address, such as FIN050100 for a PC in the Finance OU with an IP of 10.10.50.100

So giving the replacement PC a different name wouldn't work for us. Thanks for the response though.

This can only be solved by giving the new computer a different name.
