Hi,

Our organization is currently evaluating lan sweeper. I would like to know whether you can add custom fields. For example we have an asset number which is specific to our comapny for each asset. Can i add it to the discovered computers.

Thanks

Krishna

I'm not an expert on SQL or anything, but my guess is you want your reports to have a computer name and an asset tag?

If so then you may (remember, I'm no expert) be able to add a field to into tblComputersystem or something and add the asset tags that way then manually add the tags to the corresponding computers.

The other way may be to make a new table, with only asset tag and computer name then link those to whatever reports you want. The good thing about this is it will make importing data easier (assuming you have a SQL or Oracle DBA who knows how to do this).

The great thing about Lansweeper is that it can be customized to a degree I have never seen in any other program, which is why my company bought it and is happy with it.

If your not looking to add asset tags into reports then let us know what you mean.

Hi,

Thanks,

But these asset number is unique to each computer. For example we have an asset number like XXX/LAP01 or XXX/SER003 etc

Is there any way where we can enter this information.

Right. My suggestion is to enter the information on each individual computer instead directly into Lansweeper. That way, other products and your own scripts can access the number.

It wouldn't be too hard to come up with a script that would let you feed in a list of computers and asset numbers in it and do this for you (assuming, of course, that all computers are in a domain and are connected to the network).

This isn't built-in, but there are a couple of ways to get what you want. One way would be to set a registry key on each computer that contains the asset number, then scan the key. You could also try setting the computer description of each computer to the asset number (if you're not using this for anything else).
