I've read the documentation for using lsclient in a standard login script. the last step is to make sure the startup.cmd and the lsclient.exe are in the netlogon folder. I searched both my active directory server and my lansweeper server and can't find a file with this name. Am I supposed to create one and if so on which server?

Your domain controller should have a netlogon share.
You can try accessing it by typing \\servername\netlogon
