Engaged Sweeper
Hi,

I'm needing some help: I've just installed SQL Express 2008 and Lasweeper free on a Server 2003/SP2 member server joined to SBS 2003/Premium domain. The SBS is dual-homed and is using ISA 2004 as a firewall. I have created an ISA rule opening port 9524 throughout the network, and Windows Firewall is turned off everywhere (by policy). We have 25 XP/Pro/SP3 workstations.

Trying to scan results in an "RPC Server unavailable" error message from workstations and server (including the install member server), and I am unable to scan the SBS server at all. I can successfully scan the workstations (although from here too I get "RPC Server unavailable). Using the "showresults" switch results in a "good-connection" prompt.

I've looked at the knowledgebase for a solution to the RPC problem but haven't found anything that works. I'd like to get this error solved, but more important is to be able to scan the SBS server itself.

Lansweeper is installed on the member server. It's the SBS itself that I can't scan.

That can be solved by configuring the ISA server to allow the lansweeper server to scan it:

Right click "Firewall Policy"
Go to "Remote monitoring","Microsoft Operations Manager"
Choose "Enable" and add your lansweeper server.

Check your isa log files if you still have an RPC error.

What were the other RPC problems you were referring to?

This does not solve the problem. I've already looked at the ISA logs, and there is nothing relevant. I referred to two issues I am having. One is the "RPC server" error referenced above and other places in your knowledgebase, and the other is the inablility to scan the SBS server at all. Everything on the network, including the Lansweeper server, shows the RPC error, but at least I can get a scan report. I can't scan the SBS server at all.

What exactly do you mean by this?
Could you please post a screenshot of the website error page for the SBS server and for another computer with the problem

I have a screenshot, but it's not clear to me how to post it.

When I run the LSClient utility from a workstation, the results of the inventory show up in Lansweeper. Despite the fact that the first entry is "RPC server unavailable," I see a hardware and software report from the workstation. When I run the LSClient from the SBS server, however, the scan fails. No results show up in Lansweeper.

I will post a screen shot tomorrow.

Tested on ISA 2004:

Right click "Firewall Policy"
Go to "Remote monitoring","Microsoft Operations Manager"
Choose "Enable" and add your lansweeper server.

Thanks for taking time to reply. I'm not sure which of the two issues I'm having--the inability to scan my main SBS server from the member server or the persistent RPC error--but in neither case does the above solve the problem, although I am looking forward to getting it solved. My cllient is willing to pay for the premium version, although he understandably wants to make sure it's going to work.
