When you change the IIS settings, any attempt to browse the site prompts for a password. No password is accepted because there are no groups assigned or created.

For others experiencing the same issue: if your web console is hosted in IIS, try setting the authentication provider to NTLM. Do the following:
• Right-click on Windows Authentication in IIS.
• Select Providers…
• Select NTLM.
• Hit Move Up.
• Restart your browser and try accessing the web console again.
