rename detection

Folks,

as per KB http://www.lansweeper.com/kb/87/windows-rename-detection.html, the rename dedection is only applicable to Windows devices.

We have a lot of Lan/Wan (network devices) in our LS and I noticed the following; for interrogtion type SNMP.

A new IP range was added, the range scanned sucessfully and plenty of new asset entries generated.
Unfortunate, due to a little mistake, the devices were all named: cusotmer - instead of customer.

The names were amendet and re-scan took place - all the hostname (DNS) show the correct spelling, but the 'AssetName' is still the incorrect spelling.

Is this now a feature or defect or possibility for enhancment?

Correcting an incorrect hostname or assetname shouldn't cause any asset duplication for non-Windows assets. As described in this article, for non-Windows devices, the MAC address is used as a unique identifier. What could cause duplication for non-Windows assets though is if a MAC address cannot be retrieved and the network device has a dynamic IP address.

You should be able to manually edit the assetnames of those devices. If the names are identical you could use the Mass Edit Assets button (the top one) in the Assets view.
