Question

How can I avoid duplicates when adding stock monitors?

Answer

Monitors get uniquely identified by Lansweeper based on a combination of their scanned manufacturer code and serial number. More on how Lansweeper uniquely identifies assets can be found in this article: https://www.lansweeper.com/knowledgebase/how-lansweeper-uniquely-identifies-assets/

To prevent asset duplication when manually entering stock monitors into your asset inventory, the manual input needs to match the prospective scanned input. The most important part for monitors is to enter the correct manufacturer code, as it's stored in the registry as such.

For example, for Lenovo monitors, this would be LEN. And for Hewlett-Packard (HP), this would be HWP or HPN.

We've added the entire known list of monitor manufacturer codes to our knowledge base so you can look up the manufacturer code for your monitors: https://www.lansweeper.com/knowledgebase/list-of-3-letter-monitor-manufacturer-codes/
