Question

How can I track the location of my assets?

Answer

In Lansweeper, you have a couple of ways to create locations for your assets, as listed below:

  • Lansweeper can retrieve AD location information for Windows computers that are in an Active Directory domain. This information is automatically added to the Summary tab of an asset if available.
  • A location field can also be manually added to your assets by clicking on Edit Asset in the left-hand pane of your asset page. For SNMP enabled devices this is automatically populated. This information is added to the Summary tab of an asset if filled out.
  • Another option is to create an IP location, which is the location name given to an IP Range. This can be configured under Configuration\Asset Groups. More information can be found here: https://www.lansweeper.com/knowledgebase/grouping-assets/
  • Lastly, you can create an Asset Location Map, which is the location of the asset on a map, as created under Assets\New Location. More information can be found here: https://www.lansweeper.com/knowledgebase/placing-assets-on-a-map/
