Question

How can I use a more recent version of SQL Server with Lansweeper?

Answer

If you want to move your Lansweeper database to a different SQL Server instance with a more recent SQL Server version, you can follow these instructions: https://www.lansweeper.com/knowledgebase/moving-your-database-to-a-different-server/

Do keep in mind that SQL Server databases are not backward compatible, as such ensure that your new SQL Server instance is on the same version or on a higher version as your current Lansweeper database instance.

Performing an in-place upgrade of SQL Server is also possible, however, we do not have any Lansweeper specific instructions for this as this is outside the scope of Lansweeper support. If you are looking to perform an in-place upgrade of SQL Server, the following instructions might be of use: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/install-windows/upgrade-sql-server?view=sql-ser...

  • As far as we are aware, there are no special steps required to ensure that Lansweeper keeps functioning after an in-place upgrade of your SQL Server. A list of supported SQL Server versions can be found here: https://www.lansweeper.com/knowledgebase/lansweeper-installation-requirements/
  • Keep in mind that it would be best practice to stop the Lansweeper server services on your scanning servers and your web server (IIS Express or IIS) service on your Lansweeper web server prior to making any changes to your Lansweeper components, and then restarting the services afterwards when the upgrade is complete.
  • For added security, we also recommend backing up your Lansweeper installation by following these instructions: https://www.lansweeper.com/knowledgebase/backing-up-your-installation/
