Computer name change

I gather the system creates a new computer entry in the system if an existing computer changes it's name. Is there any kind of check that can be made against serial number or some other common field to pick the old entries up and delete the relevant old information.

You could check for the "lastseen" date, which indicates when the computer was last seen on the network.
