Getting "The RPC server is unavailable 0x800706BA" while the connection test works...

Hi,

I'm getting the following error on 40% of my computers:
The RPC server is unavailable 0x800706BA (TOTO.contoso.corp, CONTOSO\TOTO\1, 172.16.24.86)

When running the connection tester I get the following results:
DNS test

Is this the correct remote IP: 172.16.24.86
If not, please check for DNS problems

Is this the correct computer name: TOTO
If not, please check for DNS problems

Remote WMI test
-----------------------------------------------
Found: Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise

Remote Registry test using WMI

Any ideas?

It's not a good idea to hide these errors.
Let's say a user installs a third party firewall or enables the windows firewall or changes permissions,...
You will never notice the "not scanning" anymore.

I think I understand. When a computer is not connected when the scan is initiated by the server I get this error message. Question is: why do I get errors, since it's an expected behavior that computers are offline from time to time...

If you use active scanning the computer is added to the queue when it is found logged on onto a domain controller (process runs every 15 minutes)

If the queue is big or the computer is shut down or rebooted meanwhile you can have the rpc error. If you already have all data for the computer you can ignore the error.

And is there an updated error message after the scan?

When you tried the connection tester, did you try on both fqdn,computername and ip address?

It's possible that the computer was not available at the time of the scan.
What happens if you lstrigger the computer when the connection tester works?
