This may seem like taking a step backward, but folks here are used to having a Microsoft Access "front end" when looking at our computer inventory. We're only licensed for Access 2000, and in that version I've already hit what appears to be a major roadblock. Unfortunately, Access interprets SQL Server's "VarChar" file type as a "Memo" field. And, when trying to create a query, I've discovered that Access won't allow joins on Memo fields (which makes sense).

Assuming I find a good solution to the problem above, another issue I'll be faced with is creating an Access "front end" that isn't just "read only." My Access database uses "linked" tables that alow me to only view the actual data residing in the LANSWEEPERDB (SQL) database.

Anyway, I'm hoping someone out there may have some helpful suggestions so I don't spend a lot of time on this task. I barely have the time to write this posting!

😞

Thanks,

Terry

Access 2000 and above have "access data projects" .adp files.
With this you can directly connect to the sqlserver and bypass ODBC.
