Migrate 32bit MSSQL to 64bit?

We run Lansweeper on a Windows 2008 R2 x64 server and I just noticed that even though a 64 bit version of MS SQL 2008 is installed (atleast I think it is 64 bit because there are files in both %PROGRAMFILES% and %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%) MS SQL run as a 32 bit process.

The database is 3,99 GB (4 294 180 864 bytes) and Lansweeper webservices is extremely slow and painful to use. I suspect that we hit a size limit in the 32bit version.

When Lansweeper 5 is released, is it better to do a fresh start, reinstall the server with Windows Server 2008R2 x64 and run the Lansweeper install wizard, or should I try to migrate the SQL to 64 bit and then run a regular upgrade?

Could you check the Configuration Tool page of the Lansweeper web console. Click the Lansweeper logo in the top left corner of the web console and then click the Configuration Tool link on the right side of the web console, under Scanning Configuration.

This page lists the SQL Server your Lansweeper database is hosted in, its edition and version and your database size.

But it is a SQL 2008 R2 Express that we have right now and still it seems limited to 4GB.

Cant remember which I installed, name in installed programs is "Microsoft SQL Server 2008".

I think I used the Lansweeper installation guide, but cant remember if I upgraded to a full version after that.


EDIT:

I checked the "upgrade" feature inside MSSQL and it seems to be 2008 Express.
In that case, I would "just" have to upgrade to MSSQL 2008 Server Standard to avoid the 4GB limit and increase the speed of the SQL service?

You could move your database to SQL 2008 R2 Express or SQL 2012 Express as well. Both of these SQL versions have database size limits of 10GB.

Are you using SQL express? This has a fixed limit of 4 GB (both in 32bit and 64bit)
