Fairly new to LANSweeper but have a few issues.

Our organisation scans the machines via login script which works fine, the machines are all named according to the user they belong to, the problem we are finding is that if the user leaves and the machine is re-assigned to another user, we end up with duplicate entries... easy solution is to delete the older entry from the system BUT the initial entry has had information like location, order number, bar code and importantly the warranty expiry date!

Anyone have any ideas on how to remedy this, repeating the data from the old instance to the new is not good use of any ones time so I need a way to automate this?

Thanks

Rename the computer in lansweeper first, then rename the actual computer, this will save all old information.

So, if we rename the machine in the configuration tool and then rename the laptop physically or in our case the laptop gets re-imaged, when its re-scanned under the new user the information will remain with regards to the warranty info and bar code etc...? I wont just create another object?

Lansweeper uses the combination domain name\computer name as a unique identifier. Currently, the correct way to rename a computer is to first rename it in Lansweeper and then rename the machine itself. You can rename a computer in the Lansweeper configuration console under Lansweeper\Scanned Computers by right-clicking on the machine and selecting “Rename computer”. The computer’s existing database entry will then continue to be updated as usual.

We have considered implementing an automatic name change protocol, but have yet to find a solution that works 100% of the time.
