Those with “clean” systems may not see the need, but I’m trying to bring out-in-the-wild systems under the compliance umbrella without having to re-image every one.

I would like the capability to display (at logon) a free-form message to the current user if the system contains any unauthorized software. For example, “This system contains unapproved software. Please see your system administrator for corrective action,” and then a "Ok" button so the user logon can continue.

That's the first iteration of this concept.

The second is to add a countdown clock to advise the user the system will be disabled if not compliant in x number of days.

This is something you could already accomplish with Lansweeper 5.2's software deployment features. For the first requirement, everything you need is already built-in. Simply set up a scheduled deployment that runs the "Cmd - Mass Messenger" package on the "Software: Unauthorized software" report. This will send a message to any computer with unauthorized software installed. The only thing you'll need to do is customize the message.

If you scan with Active Scanning and/or LsPush and schedule the package to run "after scanning", users should see the warning shortly after startup.

  • Select the "Cmd - Mass Messenger" package under Deployment\Packages (Lansweeper 5.3) or Deployment\Installer Packages (Lansweeper 6.0).
  • Hit the pencil shaped edit button next to the package step in the package to customize the message sent by the package.
  • Hit Deploy Now and select Report to deploy the package on the built-in "Software: Unauthorized software" report.

I recommend reviewing this knowledge base article, which provides more information on deploying packages, manually or based on a schedule.

This is an older post we found, but is exactly what we're looking for. But we are unable to get this to work. We're having a difficult time with figuring out how to get "Cmd - Mass Messenger" package to run the "Software: Unauthorized Software" report? The answer is too vague for us. Can you expound on your answer?
Thanks,
Bob
