How does Lansweeper handle retired machines with the same name?

We have a set of workstations that all use the same computer names. We recently replaced a few of these computers with new computers. We named the new computers the same name as the previous ones. It seems, in Lansweeper, the "old" computer was simply updated with all the new information (hardware, software, Windows info, etc.) instead of creating a new asset. Is this expected behavior? I was assuming the "old" one would be marked "non-active" and a new asset would be created for this new workstation. Thanks.

This currently is expected behavior. Lansweeper uses the combination of domain and hostname as unique identifier, as described in this KB article. If you replace the physical machines and keep the same host name, you need to follow this process:

1. disconnect the old computer from the network
   
2. open the old asset page in Lansweeper, hit Edit asset and modify the asset name
   
3. connect and scan the new computer
