Hi,

As you might have seen, some time ago we welcomed Fing into the Lansweeper family.

With Fing, we’ll be able to recognize assets better without the need for credentials, greatly improving the asset radar effectiveness as well as the overall asset type recognition.

To finalize the development, we are looking for a few people who are willing and able to setup a test Lansweeper installation and try out this feature.

What will testing require?

  • If you want to join testing, you must be able to set-up a second, separate Lansweeper test environment that scans part of your network.

  • You are willing to provide feedback via email and/or the insider community.

What will you get?

  • Our everlasting gratitude

  • Special recognition in the Insider Community

When will this take place?

  • The first test is expected to start around the second half of December until early next year.

Sign-up

If you are interested in taking part, simply answer the poll below to sign-up and we’ll contact you before testing starts.

How many assets do you have in your Lansweeper installation(s)?
  • 0-500
  • 500-2,000
  • 2,000-10,000
  • 10,000-50,000
  • 50,000+

Ok it would be nice to have that possibility

Fing boxes could also be used for this, will these boxes be used with Lansweeper ?

To be honest, almost everything is possible at this point. We’ve only recently acquired Fing which resulted in this first inclusion of Fing into Lansweeper. There are opportunities later down the road to add more interaction between the two products. This will be based on more market/customer and technical research which is ongoing.

Unfortautenly I don’t have any decisive answers at the moment, but our product managers also follow along here so it’s all food for thought.

Fing recognition is credential-less, based on crowdsourcing of information from consumer apps and from B2B customers integrating the technology.
The technology is a combination of standard rule-based protocol fingerprinting blended with ML techniques, leveraging protocols like ARP, DNS, NetBIOS, SNMP, Bonjour, UPnP.
Fing technology, now part of LanSweeper, will be applied on enterprise-grade vendors and devices, so to further improve the recognition capabilities.
A comprehensive list of brands and device models is available at: http://fingpedia.com

Hi Esben, is there a list of platforms or vendors that are going to be recognized by CDR ? For instance, medical devices, telecom equipment, atm, pos, storage, etc.

Not really, it uses the Fing data API which we send the MAC address to in order to retrieve more data.

There is some more info on their website, with the machine learning behind their dataset the idea is that it is ever growing. At the moment it is more focused on consumer devices (historically their largest userbase), but now that Lansweeper is hooked into it, professional equipment will only improve over time (if it is not correct at the moment).

If you do run into incorrect results, then you can always reach out to our support team and provide them the feedback so they can look into it and forward the info for future improvements. Alternatively you can report it in the Fing community: https://community.fing.com/

Maybe @carlomedas from Fing can expand more in this?

Hello,
I bought Fingbox boxes for testing.
It would be nice to be able to install it at all my company sites to retrieve information as asset radar without having to install Lansweeper scanners everywhere.
Is this a function that will be possible ?
In any case, I want to participate in tests between Fing and Lansweeper

Hey Therry,

The integration testing has concluded now. However, what you’re talking about it not in the scope for the first release.

However, you do bring up an interesting point something that we could also fit here: How much is the shift to Work-from-Home affecting you?

It would be an alternative way to use fing fingerprinting everywhere without installing a scanning server in every subnet.

Hi Esben, can you let us know an ETA for the next release of LANSWEEPER that will include the FING integration ?

Is the Fing integration for the cloud version only, or will it be integrated to on-prem versions?
