Engaged Sweeper II
Hello everyone, I have a few general questions about Lansweeper that I hope can be answered. When we do a full scan of all our Windows assets in the office, some PC's are scanned fine while the firewall of others are denying Lansweeper access. I find this strange because we are running on a group policy. Then again, our remote administration ports are not open and I believe I read somewhere that this is required in order for Lansweeper to be effective. My main concern though is why would some PC's scan fine and others not? As I stated above, we do run on a group policy and the firewall settings on each computer should not differ from one another.

Also, some PC's (around 3) are showing up with an NAS asset type. Same asset name, same IP address. What could possibly be the explanation behind this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

- One more question, are you able to somehow recover a deleted asset? I poked around a little bit but didn't see any option.

Port 135/TCP needs to be open, Windows remote administration needs to be enabled between your Lansweeper server and scanned computers and RPC needs to be enabled. This article helps to resolve issues with Windows Firewall. Also the VBS scripts mentioned in this article helps in many cases to correctly configure Windows firewall and enable RPC on target computers. In case you are using any 3rd-party firewalls or routers which block the default ports for Windows remote administration, you might need to use LsPush in order to scan computers. LsPush is immune to firewall issues.

The NAS asset types are likely caused by WiFi or VPN connections through which the computers were scanned. These often block the required ports for scanning. In order to resolve this issue, either open 135/TCP on these connections or disable scanning of the IP ranges of your WiFi and/or VPN. Alternatively change the schedules for IP range scans and let them run only during the night when these connections are not in use.

If you already deleted an asset from your database, there is no way to restore it, except by restoring a full database backup from before.
