Is there any way or maybe a workaround that lets me add subcategories in the knowledgebase?

Example:We want 2 main categories - Infrastructure and Application.
Both of them should contain some subcategories.

Can i implement that myself or would that be a feature request?
We currently have a little over 1000 articles in our current knowledgebase. Sure, a lot of them won't make it to the new one, but it's still quite an amount and i feel like it is going to be quite a challenge without another category-tier.
