Computer renaming detection

Hi,
Is there any document or article that explains how the "Computer renaming detection" feature works.

1) you have to turn it on: configuration/server options.
2) if a computer is renamed, the old computer is automatically renamed including all details/history and the assetid stays the same.
3) the detection is based on model + macaddress + serialnumber (all three must match)
