Devices with no open ports

I now notice that since the new version I have a bunch of UKNOWN devices that I was missing before. That is good.
Mostly IP phones. I do not know how lansweeper found the Vendor, I assume by doing some general MAC address lookup.

This is great, But in my case I have devices like this on other network subnets. in that case the scan server pc will never see the mac address.
Is there any chance or way get lansweeper to "discover" the mac addresses using snmp on a remote device , ie switch/switches, or to add the device manually atleast using mac address.

If possible , please consider a future option the ability to read ARp tables from specifically designated devices (ie switches) to get the macs of remote subnet devices...

I'd say the logick could be,
IF pingable but no ports, go check the remote switches on that subnet and check their arp table. grab mac. use it in table.
then in future scans you can validate against the same MAC to make sure no dupes apear for roaming devies.


...actually, lansweeper already knows what sitchers are on that remote subnet so why not just check the after the ping. 🙂

For a device in question with no ports open, then it's snmp is not accessable.
But, for example, could the ARP table of specific remote smart devices like switches be indexed and then checked against when deciding if the device should be intered in the database.

ie, if device is pingable and if I can find a mac address in a table of a remote switch... add it under some unknown catagory?
Similarly as to how lan mapping software works these days.

Ofcourse this could cause lots of junk entered depending.

If snmp is enabled, the mac is scanned from snmp.
