We have servers/computers which are in separate vlans, separated with our internal firewall.
Scanning gives error: The RPC server is unavailable 0x800706BA, with correct computer name and IP address.
Everything from troubleshooting guide was tried but no success.
All machines have Windows firewall disabled via group policy, we don't have 3rd party firewall on machines.

Which ports should our firewall administrator allow so machines can be scanned?
WMI uses random ports, this article doesn't help : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb219447%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
I have error "The syntax supplied for this command is not valid. Check help for the correct syntax."

OK, thank you.

No, WMI runs on top of DCOM. Unfortunately, DCOM selects a random port between 1024 and 65535.

So On Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP we can not set up fixed ports?
Only solution is to allow all traffic from secured vlans?

In vista or later: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb219447%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

Well we can not allow all traffic because this vlans are intentionally isolated. So we can allow specific ports. I guess that RPC traffic goes through random ports but we can not allow wide range. Do u know what exact ports are initiated (or it can be set) from Lansweeper?

All machines are in domain.
Telnet works on port 135

On central firewall ports 135 and 9524 are allowed

On the firewall you will need to allow all traffic initiating from the lansweeper server to fix the "random ports" issue.

This only works on vista and above.

Are the machines in the same domain or are they standalone?
Are you able to telnet to port 135 from the server to the client?
