UserPictures with a dot in the username

I have a client trying to use the Userpictures feature, but they have usernames with '.' in the middile, like <firstname.lastname> and so the pictures don't work when I name them firstname.lastname.jpg.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

Good Grief, after watching it all day, with the pictures not working on anyone with a . in it, now a few minutes after I post this, they start working.
