Engaged Sweeper
Without going into details now, our former Network Manager implemented a system whereby remote users VPNing into our network receive hostnames like this:

LASTN_F.vpn

So, if I want to PING or establish a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC), I simply use the above hostname.

More importantly, though, I cannot PING or RDC into a VPN-connected laptop using its Fully-Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).

I've been satisfied with the status quo, until I recently implemented Lansweeper, and learned that it uses the FQDN.

So, my quesrtion is: Can I make a modification to Lansweeper so that it would also "discover" hostnames using the "LASTN_F.vpn" naming convention?

NOTE: I'm running version 3.5.1 of the Premium edition.

Thanks,

Terry

3.5.1 scans 3 ways (in this order until one works)

FQDN
computername
ip address (gathered from dns)

The first one will fail in your setup.
I suggest for the second one that you add ".vpn" on the list of dns search suffixes (see bottom of http://www.lansweeper.com/kb/untrusted.aspx)

That should do the trick
