Does Lansweeper read memory information from BIOS or from OS? WE have some laptops that are installed with 4 GB RAM but reporting 3 GB? Since this is windows xp , so 3 GB is usable? Please clarify as we are using this information to plan windows 7 update with standard 4GB of memory .

Maybe this can help. It explains the 32bit versus 64bit. We had the same problem here.

Lansweeper reads WMI information.
Use the information in tblphysicalmemory and tblphysicalmemoryarray to get more accurate information about slots.

If you use these tables you will get the memory total you want.
