Is there any way to find the serial number for the battery in in HP laptop? They have a recall. Thanks.

Portable battery information is directly scanned from WMI, Windows Management Instrumentation, a management framework built into Windows operating systems. More specifically from the WMI class WIN32_Portablebattery. Unfortunately the serial number of batteries is not stored in WMI and cannot be scanned currently.

Not generally. It could be scripted, but it would take as much work as running the Battery Recall utility.
What I did for it's previous recall (and likely for this recall), is to set up a deployment to run the utility from a network folder. As long as the machine/user has access to the folder it will dump all the results there and then you can either upload them to HP or use simply search the files for the terms >Recall needed</
