Can Lansweeper monitor interfaces on routers and switches and alert me via email when one is down? If so how do we do this?

We received and answered this question via email last week. For everyone else's benefit, I'm pasting the reply we sent via email below.
To scan the interfaces of network devices such as routers and switches you will have to scan with SNMP. You can find information on scanning network devices here.

To monitor if a router or switch port is down you will then have to create a report that will give back the status of your router and switch interfaces. You can use the report below to get the interfaces from routers and switches that are down. Instructions for adding this report to your Lansweeper installation can be found here. If you are interested in building or modifying reports, we do recommend:
  • Reviewing some SQL tutorials, as the Lansweeper report builder is a standard SQL editor. If you know SQL, you know how to build Lansweeper reports as well. This seems like a good tutorial.
  • Making use of our database dictionary, which explains in great detail what each database table and field stores. More information on the dictionary can be found here.

Once your report is ready you can go to Configuration\Email Alerts. In the E-mail/Export reports you can add the report and have it be sent to your email based on a schedule. You can find more information on Email Alerts in this knowledge base article.
Select Distinct Top 1000000 tblAssets.AssetID,
tblAssets.AssetName,
tsysAssetTypes.AssetTypename,
tblAssets.IPAddress,
tblSNMPInfo.IfIndex As [Interface Index],
tsysAssetTypes.AssetTypeIcon10 As icon
From tblAssets
Left Join tblAssetCustom On tblAssets.AssetID = tblAssetCustom.AssetID
Left Join tsysAssetTypes On tsysAssetTypes.AssetType = tblAssets.Assettype
Inner Join tblSNMPInfo On tblAssets.AssetID = tblSNMPInfo.AssetID
Where (tsysAssetTypes.AssetTypename = 'Router' Or tsysAssetTypes.AssetTypename =
'Switch') And tblSNMPInfo.IfOperstatus = 2 And tblAssetCustom.State = 1
Order By tblAssets.AssetName
