I am trying to search for the various editions of Visio we have installed on users machines. When I type Visio into the search box....it only provides results for software that begins with the word "Visio" -- items named "Microsoft Visio..." are never displayed. I had assumed the search would pull any item containing the "visio" string. Is this proper operation of the search function?

You can create a custom report for this with parameter '%visio%'

Thanks....if I use that %visio% string in the search database box, it returns the information I need.
