I have read a lot of documentation and forums posts about how the Windows rename detection works - it seems that it looks at the Model, Serial Number, and MAC address.

I've manually added a number of computers with the make, model, and serial - unfortunately they aren't renaming. I am NOT adding a MAC address, as I don't see where I can manually enter that. I was hoping that make/model/serial would be enough, but the documentation doesn't make that clear.

If a MAC is needed for correctly getting detection to work, how do I add a device's a MAC address?

(I've attached two screenshots to show my manually created device as well as the duplicate that Lansweeper's IP scanner picked up automatically)

All three fields need to be the same when first entering an asset and afterwards rescanning it. If you leave the Mac address empty and during scanning Lansweeper retrieves a Mac address, a duplicate asset entry will get created. When adding a new asset (Assets\New asset), you are able to fill in the Mac address (see screenshot attached). Alternatively use the asset import function which allows you to import assets from an XLS sheet as long as these don't already exist in the Lansweeper database.

The Mac address of existing assets can't be modified as it should be unique for a specific asset. For non-Windows assets, Lansweeper uses the Mac address as unique identifier. If for a non-Windows device no Mac address was initially entered, you can still enter one at a later point. For Windows assets this is not currently supported on the web console as Mac addresses would have to be entered as network adapter information.

So from what I gather, you can add the MAC upon creation, but cannot edit it later? Is there a reason for this?
