Weird, probably quick question.  When Lansweeper scans an asset, if it misidentifies it as say, a webserver, itll only pull information related to a 'webserver', correct?  So in theory, if a network switch is misidentified, correcting that to a "Network Switch", will that query for different information? 

Like, if its a webserver it searches for certain SNMP stuff and whatnot, but since it misidentified it, it wont look for 'network switch' SNMP stuff.  Right?

 

Or am I crazy...

 

Im just looking at all of our misidentified assets, and thinking about 'is it worth the time to go clean up the data, or just leave it be'.

Lansweeper determines that an asset is a web server by analyzing open ports and information pulled from various protocols during the scanning process. This includes protocols such as HTTP, HTTPS, and others that are typically associated with web servers.

When Lansweeper scans an asset, it automatically tries to determine its type by looking at open ports and information pulled from the following protocols:

  • Bonjour
  • DNS-SD
  • FTP
  • HTTP
  • HTTPS
  • JetDirect
  • DNS
  • SIP
  • SMTP
  • SNMP (SNMPv1, SNMPv2, or SNMPv3)
  • SSDP
  • SSH
  • Telnet
  • UPnP
  • WMI

For a web server, Lansweeper would specifically look for open HTTP (port 80) and HTTPS (port 443) ports, among other indicators.

You can edit the asset type to change it to switch, or ensure that you are using SNMP scan to scan that asset and use custom OIDs, if needed, to get all the data from the switch.

You can change asset type via manual assets edit or mass editing. 

Then you can see all scanned information.
