Up until recently we had not entered the correct SNMP community names to detect our network switches.

So until recently using ip scanning the switches were being detected - but simply as "Network Devices" with very little information.

Having added the SNMP community names the switches are being correctly detected and have more verbose information and shown as "Switches".

However they also still show as Network Devices as well with the limited basic information.

I had assumed once detected as Switches it would overwrite exsiting information.

So now we have 155 duplicate entries - those correctly in Switches with lots of information, and 155 "Network Devices" with very little information.

Other than manually deleting these entries is there a better way of merging / deleting / removing these duplicates?

Cheers

I am using 4.2.0.52 - I notice that .56 is available - will this make any difference...?

Also when I looked into this further I have several duplicates devices - including printers....

A worry!

This will not make a difference in regards to duplicates, but we do recommend that you upgrade to our latest Lansweeper version.

This is due to the upgrade to 4.2. With the difference in device identification that occurred, new device pages were created with updated information. These duplicates are a one-time occurrence. You can delete the duplicate entries from your records (deleting the old ones and leaving just the new ones) and they should not return.

Could you click the "Check for updates" link in the bottom right corner of your web console landing page and let us know which Lansweeper version you are using.
Lansweeper 4.2 identifies devices based on MAC address and should prevent the duplicates in the future (in most cases).

Is this by design? Or will newer versions of LS allow automatic merging of this information?

The duplication is not ideal!

You will have to manually delete the duplicates in the configuration console, under Lansweeper\Scanned Devices.
You can sort by device type to easily find the entries you need.
