Is it possible to active scan a non-AD domain such as an older NT4.x domain? If so, is it as simple as entering the same name for both DNS and Netbios names?

Thanks...

ok, thanks for your help. The WINS entry alone seems to have worked.

The service tries to connect to the name "ILDW01"
So you have to make sure that the service can resolve this to the correct ip address.

I think I got this fixed. Can you confirm my fix?

I needed to create forward and reverse zones in my DNS as well as static WINS entries to be able to resolve machines properly that are located in the NT4x domain.

thanks...

ok understood. I tried lsclient.exe from a machine in my NT domain, but receive the following errors. the machine is a Windows 2003 server and the firewall is disabled.

Does this type of scenario still require a trust between the NT4 domain and the AD domain where LS is running?

Wmierror Cannot connect to DCOM port 135 : Firewalled? (ILDW01)
Wmierror The RPC server is unavailable 0x800706BA (ILDW01)

This won't work, active scanning is based on active directory.

You can scan the older domains (and samba domains) with lsclient.
