Hello,

We recently got this program and have been testing it out. We have tried all the steps listed for help but as of yet, nothing from those has worked. Listed below is our issue.

We have the service running on a XP machine. Out of 34 computers currently found (on the domain) only 14 computers and 1 server are being seen properly. The rest are either "RPC Server unavailable" or "Reverse lookup failed". For the ones that are "RPC Server unavailable", we have tried to do every suggestion listed in the knowledgebase as well as a few from the forums.

When we disable the firewall, it will connect properly but I don't think we should have to do this for all the users (we have some laptop users that go off-site and we don't want to leave them unprotected). We only have windows firewall enabled.

Is there anything we can do to get around this issue? Open up specific ports? We have some users on the domain and some not. Right now, we are mostly trying to figure out the people on the domain. After, we are going to try and solve the people not on the domain problem.

Is there anything that people might suggest to fix the firewall issue?

We are using version 3.2 but we also have a basic machine setup to test 3.5 Beta and that has the same issue (error unless firewall off)

Thanks for any help

On you computer you can try "gpupdate /force" to force a re-apply of the policies.

You can also check the state of the windows firewall with "netsh firewall show state"

We tried those steps and it wasn't doing anything. It was only when we manually turned the windows firewall off that it finally connected and worked. We just tested on another computer manually. Checked the settings listed in that link and all matched. Rebooted the computer just to be on the safe side. Didn't work. Disable the firewall manually, worked.

See this link : http://www.lansweeper.com/kb/firewall.aspx

You need to set up 2 profiles : domain and standard.
On standard enable your firewall, on domain disable it.

This will make sure that you firewall is on for portable computers when they leave the office.
