Is there a better way to rename a computer asset, in lansweeper?
In the old version 4, i believe, when renaming the computer in the config tool the names referenced in actions and so forth were updated.
in version 5, when i EDIT the asset and then change the "ASSETNAME" and Comments (for some reason the comments have the PC name), the name does not get updated for actions like remote control. I have to force a LSPUSH on the remote pc manually. I can't re-scan manually from lansweeper because the name is still wrong somewhere.
I have a feeling it will find it eventually in active directory and rescan it, but let's assume I am Impatient and want to see the data/update right away 🙂
thank you

Please contact support@lansweeper.com and provide us with screenshots of this behavior. You can rename a machine by hitting the Edit Asset button on its Lansweeper webpage.

We see what you mean now. This is expected behavior. The {smartname} parameter refers to the FQDN for Windows computers, which can only be updated when the machine is rescanned. We will add an option to manually edit the FQDN so you won't have to wait for a rescan.

i double checked. yup, the action name does not change for the computer . i'll send you some screen shots.
maybe i'm just doing something wrong 🙂
***found answer actually i think.
====
the {smartname} resolves as the "old pre edit name"
the {computer}" resolves as the post edit name.
but this seems to get fixed after a lspush
i had seen both in some actions but most actions use the Smartname it seems. one had {computer} and that was ok. wierd.

This should not be possible, as the computer name isn't hard coded into the action path. It's dynamically retrieved from the database.

I am trying to change the name of a windows oomputer. Ie a windows XP , from name= BOB to name= FRED
🙂
what i am saying is, if i do the Edit asset, the name does not change for action it seems when i mouse over but the rest of the names on the page change.
If I do it again any time soon i'll try to capture a screen.

Could you please clarify what you did. The behavior you are describing should not be possible.
- Did you rename a random Lansweeper asset in Lansweeper or did you rename your Lansweeper server in Lansweeper?
- Did you rename the asset in Lansweeper to the actual name of the asset or to something else? (Note that Lansweeper does not push name changes out to the machine.)
