Tried doing an upgrade to 4.0 from 3.5.2, got the following error:
c:\program files\lansweeper32\service\helperfunctions.dll
An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file:
DeleteFile failed; code 5.
Access is denied.
I chose to abort and try to run the setup again, which proved fatal as now nothing is working; the database is convereted already, if I try to run the update again and not convert the database, I'm told I have to convert the database, if I choose to convert it, I'm told the lansweeper database is not installed on my server.

Normally you don't need to do anything, please run the installer and send the install.log file afterwards to check the problem.

Yes, the database was renamed, and I'm connecting to the correct server ...
The server is running on VMware, I took a snapshot before I started the upgrade and decided to revert to it, so now I'm back to a fully functional 3.5.2
Can you please advise what would be the correct steps to do the upgrade? Also, currently the web interface is at 127.0.0.1/lansweeper32 (running on IIS), which option for the web site upgrade should I choose if I want to keep the same path?

Did you rename your database to lansweeperdb?
Are you connecting to the correct database with the 4.0 version of lsmanage.exe?

I followed the steps you suggested, got a few more errors during the upgrade and after the upgrade (see attached), now the configuration utility shows no computers (although the database does have the computer information in the table), and it also tells me it's now not a registered version.

Make sure the service is stopped.
Run the installer, select "new installation" and select only the service.
Make sure your database name is "lansweeperdb"
