Like many other LANsweeper users, I am beginning to wrestle with getting my Apple iOS assets reporting within LANsweeper. I understand the limitations of remotely scanning iOS, however I have found a couple of suggestions I'd like to follow-up on.

1. Integration with an MDM solution. This discussion suggested doing so, and we do have an MDM: https://www.lansweeper.com/Forum/yaf_postst10504_IOS-App-for-scannability.aspx#post39433. It looks like I'd need to export the assets as CSV and import them to LANsweeper, though perhaps I could perform these tasks through SQL automation.

2. Managing assets via CSV. Is anyone doing this? If so, how well is it working for you and what is your high-level process?

If you already have the devices in Lansweeper, it might cause some problems since the import is not designed to update existing assets.

Devices will be uniquely identified in Lansweeper depending on what information is retrieved. You can get more information about how Lansweeper does it's identification here: https://www.lansweeper.com/kb/149/how-lansweeper-uniquely-identifies-assets.html

Since you are likely to get errors while importing due to the IP addresses being the same or the MAC addresses being the same. I would recommend deleting the current IOS devices in Lansweeper (and preventing them from being scanned in the future). Once they are deleted you can import your CSV (I assume that this has more information than Lansweeper was able to scan).

To me that's the wrong way around though, I'd like to see my iOS assets in LanSweeper, but continue to manage them in MDM.

So, a bit like the request to connect to VMWare VCenter, I'd like to see us be able to connect to the market leading MDMs (e.g. Airwatch, Maas360, MobileIron, InTune, etc...)

Am going to try csv export from Maas360 and import into LanSweeper, but not sure how to tie up the assets that LanSweeper has already id'ed as iOS from wifi ip range scan...

In regards to #1: Lansweeper has an open SQL database, if your MDM allows for a SQL server connection to pull data from that it is possible to automate it.

An alternative might be to use alert reports. I'd suggest reading more about them here https://www.lansweeper.com/kb/113/sending-email-alerts.html
Basically you can let Lansweeper automatically generate a report in a csv format which is exported to the Lansweeper\service\export folder. If you can make that folder the import folder of your MDM, that would be one way of doing it.
