Ya, that's strange behavior. I was able to delete from my test environment. I have to wonder if the servers were "backed up" or something. Would you mind trying again and post here how it goes?
If you continue to have issues, you may want to reach out to support. It doesn't appear you did anything "wrong", deleting an asset should be fairly straightforward. 😃
