If I add a scan range, and it scans a bunch of systems, adding to the number of licenses I use, is there a way to remove those systems and get back the licenses, or are those licenses assigned to those systems forever?

That is how I believe it works. The licenses are based on the amount of assets, if these were additional assets scanned for an audit and no longer required you can delete them which should then free up your license count again.
We have alot of things we could scan with our instance, however we are only interested in Windows machines and switches, everything else is disabled which helps keep our asset count low.

So deleting the assets out of there will give me back the endpoint licenses that Lansweeper consumed to scan those assets?

Under assets, you can do a mass edit and delete said assets.
